Heroes of Pan
Jit Samaroo is a performer, arranger and composer from Trinidad. He was the eldest child in a large family. When his mother died when he was 13 he was left as the head of the family and needed to find a way to feed his brothers and sisters. He decided that they should form a band, and this is how the Samaroo Jets were born.
As well as a soloist he became renowned as an arranger, particularly of calypsos by Kitchener. His arrangements won Panarama nine times between 1982 and 1997.
